Andy McCullough

Head of Public Affairs and Policy for children's charity Railway Children

Andy McCullough is Head of Public Affairs and Policy for Railway Children, which supports vulnerable young people alone and at risk on Britain’s streets.

In his 27 years of experience in the social care sector, Andy has managed frontline national and international projects and advised on policy concerning youth work, runaways, child prostitution, drug abuse and mental health.

He is founder and current chair for The English Coalition for Runaway Children, co-founder of the international coalition Safe Families Safe Children, and sits on a number of street-involved national steering groups. In addition to regular media exposure, Andy is widely published and has been an expert witness in a number of inquiries, including that of Victoria Climbie and the Education Select Committee inquiry on child protection, sexual exploitation and gangs.

Andy grew up in the care system, and has first-hand experience of running away from home and living on the streets as a teenager in the 1970s.
