Gareth van Onselen

Political Analyst at the Institute of Race Relations (IRR)

Gareth van Onselen studied at Wits University, obtaining a master's degree in sociology before entering the world of politics. For the next 12 years, he worked for the Democratic Alliance, in various different capacities, most of which involved communications and political analysis. He then worked for BDlive and Sunday Times as a columnist and journalist. He is currently the Head of Politics and Governance at the SA Institute of Race Relations. He is a liberal, humanist and the author of two books: Holy Cows: The Ambiguities of being South African and Clever Black, Jesus and Nkandla: The Real Jacob Zuma in his own Words.
