With a family background in food, culinary endeavours were always going to play a large part in Ryan's life.
After an initial stint in the kitchen, and many a year in academia (Fine Art, Biology and ﬁnally a Master in Philosophy), Ryan found his true output manifesting behind the bar- blending his unique inﬂuences of the arts and the sciences.
Once settled in the craft of the cocktail, it was very much a focus on the highest echelons- helping take bars such as Bramble, 69 Colebrooke Row, Purl and The Worship Street Whistling Shop onto
Personally, he also has been crowned Bartender of the Year for the UK twice, held several national championship titles, and competed internationally. He was also named 'Hot Stuff' at the 2012 Imbibe Awards naming him as a pioneer and innovator, and the one under 30 to watch.
Being known for pushing the cutting edge of the food and drinks world, Ryan has given seminars and training throughout the UK, in The US, Sweden, Azerbaijan, Germany, Russia and Sri Lanka.
However, his main interest is engaging with the budding cocktail consumer and home enthusiast.
He has been a contributing writer to Class Magazine, Imbibe, Drinks International and more, and has had several features in national press. You can also engage with his cocktail suggestions for the home through his work for The Whisky Yearbook, The Whisky Show 2011 & 2012 and Unﬁltered Magazine.
As Mr Lyan, he consults for brands such as Hennessy, Diageo, Bacardi, Martin Miller’s Gin, Green & Black’s and Cawston Press.
