An old welfare rights and community worker, Steve Griffiths was an architect of the Labour Government’s successful preventative billion-pound investment in supported housing, on the back of several Rowntree research reports. He worked as a consultant for three Government departments. After a series of area profiles of poverty and health inequality using small area mapping, his last professional research concerned ways of reducing emergency admissions to hospital by addressing health inequality and investing in prevention and early intervention.
