8 Good Reasons To Rearrange Your Furniture Today

The Best Way To Transform A Room, Without Buying Anything New

Few things in the decor realm can be so black-and-white, but rearranging furniture IS one of them. You're either "for" it or "against" it, and those who love to move things around tend to be very vocal about it. They may even try to move your stuff around. My mother, for example, happily fits into that camp. (Fact: In high school, I once woke up to find my bedroom furniture in another room entirely. "You're going away to college, your brother deserves the bigger room!" Mom said, while single-handedly forcing an oversized antique dresser through a narrow hallway.)

While I wouldn't advocate doing that to a family member, roommate or significant other, there are some merits to changing things up now and then. At the very least, it's the easiest way to give your home a new look, without buying a single thing. Here are a few more reasons to try something new with your furniture arrangement.

We're all creatures of habit, and what often happens with furniture is that we keep it where we first placed it, even if that isn't the best place for that piece. For instance, most of us have a bookcase, shelf or table that is a magnet for clutter because it's the first surface you encounter when you walk in.

Not everything has to be up against a wall -- unless you're really short on space. In that case, getting rid of any excess clutter or furniture can do wonders.

It's harder to change your furniture arrangement if the TV is wall-mounted, of course. But, so many of us base our living situations off of where the television is. Maybe it's time for a change of pace?
