The couple began dating in 2011 and welcomed their son, Angelo, in 2012.

They tied the knot in a secret 2016 ceremony, with Adele publicly addressing the wedding for the first time the following year during an acceptance speech at the Grammys.

After their separation had been confirmed earlier this year, a representative for the British singer said: “They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”

After announcing her separation from her husband, Adele admitted the last year had “tried me so hard”.

Posting on Instagram after celebrating her 31st birthday, the singer said that she had “changed drastically in the last couple years”, joking she would be recording a drum and bass record to “spite” the difficult 12 months she’s had.

“This is 31… thank fucking god,” she wrote. “30 tried me so hard but I’m owning it and trying my hardest to lean in to it all.

“No matter how long we’re here for life is constant and complicated at times.

“I’ve changed drastically in the last couple years and I’m still changing and that’s okay.”

She continued: “31 is going to be a big ol’ year and I’m going to spend it all on myself. For the first time in a decade I’m ready to feel the world around me and look up for once.

“Be kind to yourself people we’re only human, go slow, put your phone down and laugh out loud at every opportunity.

“Learning to REALLY truly love yourself is it, and I’ve only just realised that that is more than enough.

“I’ll learn to love you lot eventually. Bunch of fucking savages, 30 will be a drum n bass record to spite you. Chin up eh.”

Tottenham-born Adele released her debut album, 19, in 2008, reaching number one in the UK.

Her eagerly anticipated follow-up, 2011’s 21, brought even more success thanks to the singles Someone Like You, Rolling In The Deep and Rumour Has It.

The record topped the charts in 30 countries, including the US and UK, and cemented Adele’s status as one of the world’s best-loved artists.

Adele released her most recent album, 25, in 2015, which contained the single Hello. It proved to be another critical and commercial success.
