AJ Pritchard has been given the go-ahead to take part in this year’s I’m A Celebrity after previously testing positive for coronavirus.

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant has returned two negative tests since contracting Covid-19, meaning he is now free to enter the new Welsh castle later this week.

ITV confirmed one star on this year’s line-up had tested positive for the virus at the weekend, with AJ now confirming he was the celebrity in question.

Speaking to Metro, he said: “Yes I did have a positive coronavirus test early into my isolation. I’m very happy to report that I’ve had two tests recently and they have both come back very negative which means I’m 100% going into the jungle.”

Someone might want to tell him the show has relocated from the Australian jungle to Gwrych Castle in Wales...

He continued: “It’s a big relief for everybody. I just want to thank ITV for all their stringent measures. The whole point of us going into lockdown and isolating is just in case this does happen.”

Among those who will be joining AJ in this year’s I’m A Celebrity include TV presenter Vernon Kay, soap legend Beverley Callard and Olympic runner Sir Mo Farrah.

The 10 stars are currently in complete isolation in various locations across north Wales to ensure they are Covid-free prior to entering the castle.

Earlier this week, Vernon showed fans around his quarantine quarters, which proved to be much more luxurious than where he’ll be spending the next few weeks.

I’m A Celebrity launches on Sunday 15 November at 9pm on ITV.
