They have spent the last two decades laughing as other stars have taken on Bushtucker Trials on I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! but finally, Ant and Dec have been subjected to their own.

And from the look of a number of pictures from the challenge, it looks like the producers gave them a rough ride for having avoided it for so long.

The pair filmed the trial as part of an upcoming highlights episode celebrating 19 series of the ITV reality show, which is set to air on Sunday.

It will see them take part in a number of gruesome elements, including having their heads encased in a perspex dome filled with jungle critters.

The first look pictures also reveal they will be sampling a number of nasties in an eating challenge.

The segment is fronted by former Extra Camp presenter Joel Dommett, who was subjected to many trials himself when he was a contestant on the show in 2016.

Ant and Dec revealed they’d done the challenge in a tweet on Sunday night, and said the experience was everything they feared it would be.

They wrote: “Well, we did it. We finally got talked into doing a #BushtuckerTrial. Don’t ask how but rest assured it was as hideous as we thought!”

The new series of I’m A Celebrity is set to kick off later this month, moving from its usual setting in the Australian outback to a creepy castle in north Wales due to the pandemic.

The contestants will still take part in the familiar tasks and trials fans are used to, but will be competing to be crowned the King or Queen of the Castle, rather than the Jungle.

Last month, a spokesperson for Gwrych Castle insisted the show would not be affected by the current lockdown in Wales, which is due to end on 9 November.

Catch Ant and Dec’s Bushtucker Trial on I’m A Celebrity: A Jungle Story on Sunday at 8pm on ITV.
