Aston Merrygold has shared the reaction his three-year-old son had to him being unmasked as Robin on The Masked Singer, and it’s absolutely adorable.

The former JLS singer reached the final of the ITV singing show on Saturday, but was beaten to the crown by Sausage, aka Joss Stone.

As he watched the big reveal back with his fiancée Sarah Richards and son Grayson at home, Aston filmed the moment the mask came off.

In a video Aston posted on Instagram, Grayson could be seen chanting “take it off!” along with the studio audience, before realising it was his dad and shouting, “Daddy!”

And it seems Grayson has become rather attached to his dad’s bird outfit, with Aston revealing he’s been asking him to put it back on.

Speaking to The Mirror, Aston said: “He’s in that stage where not much can make him concentrate, it has to be something special to hold his attention.

“With that show being as wild as it is and crazy, he was like, ‘what is this?’ Massive animal creatures running around singing, lights are going off.

“When the unveiling happened, I thought it would go one of two ways - the character’s heads gonna come off, and he’d either be like, ‘no, don’t want to see that’, or it’s a bit like the reaction that we did get, and he was like ‘Daddy, it’s you!’ Perfect, job done!

“From the first moment I got the phonecall from the show, that was the reaction I wanted. He was like, ‘put it on again...and again...and again.’ Yeah, over and over.”

Saturday night’s final also saw runner-up Badger unmasked as chart-topping singer Ne-Yo, before winner Joss Stone was unmasked as Sausage.

Other stars unmasked over the course of this year’s series included former footballer Glenn Hoddle and comedian Sir Lenny Henry, as well as singers Mel B, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Gabrielle.

It’s been revealed that 8.6 million tuned in to watch The Masked Singer on Saturday night, making it biggest live TV audience for any show so far in 2021, excluding news and sport events.
