Cash aimed at closing the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their most well-off classmates is being used to pay for campus officers at schools in Glasgow.
The five officers now in place at schools in the south-west of the city are funded by the Scottish Government’s Pupil Equity Fund and Police Scotland.
They are based at Bellahouston Academy, St Paul’s High School, Rosshall Academy, Govan High and Hillpark Secondary.
- 2,387 schools are being given a share of £120 million in 2018/19
- Part of the Scottish Government's £750 million Attainment Scotland Fund
- Spent at the discretion of headteachers in partnership with the local authority
- Allocations are based on the number of pupils from P1 to S3 registered for free school meals
The latest took up the position on February 5 while the campus officer at Bellahouston Academy has been in place for around three years.
Chief Inspector Alan Bowater said: “After seeing the positive impact that the Bellahouston campus officer was having in the community, we approached the other secondary schools in the division to see if they were interested in securing funding to buy into the project.
“We are delighted to have the support of all five schools, and thankful that the Scottish Government’s Pupil Equity Fund was able to help us support the schools and the surrounding community.”
The £120 million Pupil Equity Fund is paid directly to eligible schools across Scotland.
