Britain’s Got Talent fans were as outraged as judge Amanda Holden on Saturday night, after Paul Potts failed to make it through to the final of the new Champions series.

The show’s first ever winner competed in the first heat of the special edition, which sees former BGT finalists return to compete alongside some top international acts from Got Talent editions around the world.

However, he failed to even make the top three acts after the audience of thousands were able to choose one contestant to send through to the final.

Judge Amanda could be seen shouting “what about Paul Potts?” as it was announced series six winner Ashleigh and Sully, series 10 dance act Boogie Storm, America’s Got Talent’s comic daredevils Bello and Annaliese Nock had won the highest number of votes.

And it was certainly a sentiment shared by viewers, who had praised his emotional performance of Parla Più Piano, best known for being featured in The Godfather…

The episode saw Bello and Annaliese progress to the final, alongside fellow international act Kseniya Simonova.

The sand artist and original winner of Ukraine’s Got Talent went straight through to the final after Amanda pressed her Golden Buzzer, while Bello and Annaliese were chosen by the audience at Wembley.

Other international acts who performed on the show included Asia’s Got Talent illusionist The Sacred Riana, India’s Got Talent dancers Sonali and Sarder and Australian comedy duo The Nelson Twins.

Another familiar BGT act returned to the stage as former child star Connie Talbot impressed the judges 13 years on from her original audition when she was just six years old.

Earlier this year, Paul competed in America’s Got Talent: The Champions, where he was chosen by the audience to make it through to the final.
