The star has not directly addressed the headlines, but posting on Instagram shortly after Variety published their article, she shared a quote on Instagram which said: “Fall in love with taking care of yourself, mind, body and spirit.”

Underneath it, she wrote: “We all need to take time for a little “me time.” :).”

Fans soon began sharing supportive messages in the comments, with one writing: “Talking about mental health is so important and I applaud her for investing in her and her health.”

“Stay strong Britney, another added. “We love you and we all look to you for strength. Please know we all support you.”

Plenty of people tweeted messages too:

In January, Britney put her second Las Vegas residency on hold to care for her father, Jamie Spears, who has been battling a life-threatening illness.

The press release announcing the residency’s postponement explained that his “colon spontaneously ruptured and he was immediately admitted into surgery”.

The 66-year-old then spent 28 days in the hospital after a “long, complicated post-operative period”.

“We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him,” she said at the time. “I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand.”

Since then, Jamie has had a second surgery to fix the ruptured colon.

HuffPost UK has contacted Britney’s representatives for comment.
