Camila Cabello has said she is “sorry from the bottom of her heart”, after posts from her old Tumblr account containing racist language were unearthed.

On Wednesday night, the singer shared a public apology on her social media page, writing: “When I was younger, I used language that I’m deeply ashamed of and will regret forever.

“I was uneducated and ignorant and once I became aware of the history and the weight and the true meaning behind this horrible and hurtful language, I was deeply embarrassed I ever used it.”

The former Fifth Harmony singer continued: “As much as I wish I could, I can’t go back and change things I said in the past. But once you know better, you do better and that’s all I can do.

“I’m 22 now, I’m an adult and I’ve grown and learned and am conscious of the history and the pain it carries in a way I wasn’t before. Those mistakes don’t represent the person I am or a person I’ve ever been.

“I only stand and have ever stood for love and inclusivity, and my heart has never, even then, had any ounce of hate or divisiveness.”

Camila’s apology came days after a Twitter thread went viral, detailing past posts from her Tumblr posted in 2012, in the months before she appeared on the US version of The X Factor.

Among these posts were repeated uses of the n-word, as well as reblogged jokes making fun of Black people.

The Tumblr account in question has now been deactivated.

Camila rose to prominence as a member of the girl group Fifth Harmony, and has topped the UK singles chart twice since leaving the band.
