French DJ and music producer Philippe Zdar has died after accidentally falling from a building in Paris.
The musician, best known as one half of dance duo Cassius, fell from a window on a high floor of an apartment block in the French capital.
His manager Sebastien Farran said in a statement: “He made an accidental fall, through the window of a high floor of a Parisian building.”
No further details have been made available yet.
Philippe, whose real name is Philippe Cerboneschi, found success in the music industry after working as a sound engineer for French artist Serge Gainsbourg.
He formed Cassius with fellow musician Hubert Boombass in 1996. The house duo’s biggest track came in the late 90s, with the eponymous song Cassius 1999.
Philippe later went on to work with artists such as Kanye West, Jay Z, Beastie Boys, Franz Ferdinand and Phoenix.
Fellow DJ Calvin Harris was among the first to pay tribute online after news of his death broke.
He tweeted: “Awful news about Phillipe Zdar, what an unbelievably lovely man with an incredible legacy. I was mesmerized by this record as a 15 year old.”
Australian electronic band Cut Copy said he was “a true original and unique talent who was involved in making our first album, as well as so many amazing records.”
They added: “Your energy and generosity will be sorely missed.”
Philippe is survived by daughter Angelica Zdar who he shares with French actor Aure Atika.
