I've just returned from a trip to Russia. I had a great time and thought that Saint Petersburg was fantastic! I'd definitely recommend a visit.
Over the weekend I popped along to the Kent Police open day. The event was good fun and there were lots of free activities for families to enjoy. Thankfully we didn't get deluged by any rain. I took my grandson along and we had a look at the helicopter, marine boat and my favourite - the dog display!
This week I'm getting back into the swing of things. It's fantastic news that Ian Learmonth, our Kent Chief Constable, has been awarded the Queen's Police Medal in Her Majesty's birthday honours list. Mr Learmonth has made a massive contribution to policing in not only Kent but Scotland, Norwich and Essex. The Chief has shown real leadership and commitment in Kent, even in difficult times, and has helped to create and deliver a savings programme to find £50m over four years. So his award is thoroughly deserved - well done!
I was also delighted to see PC Kim White of Kent Police has become an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). PC White has carried out a substantial amount of work with the gypsy traveller community and on domestic abuse issues.
Talking of celebrations I will be attending a Community Warden Service at Kent County Council tomorrow night. The event celebrates 10 years service for when the scheme first began and I'm looking forward to hearing stories from those who have dedicated so much of their time to community work.
My PA Penny Rowland is leaving the Authority on Friday for a new post at Kent Police. She has been an absolute godsend to me and I don't know what I shall do without her, but I wish her all the very best in her new job.
I've managed to pick England as my team in the sweepstake in the office, how lucky am I, so fingers crossed they will do well against Ukraine tonight. Come on England!
