Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has unveiled the results of his hair transplant after undergoing the procedure to “protect his mental health”.

The actor – better known as Weatherfield’s David Platt – underwent the procedure nine months ago after being “depressed about his hair loss throughout his 20s”.

Jack said his “body confidence had soared” since his transplant, which saw more than 3000 hairs from the back of his head implanted into the front of his scalp.

Posing for a set of pictures to show the difference the surgery had made, Jack said: “I knew I needed to get it sorted out to protect my mental health.

“As an actor, my hair and my looks are crucial to my success and if I go bald then I am not going to be considered for younger roles as I get older.

“My body confidence has soared since I had the procedure as the new hair has grown back.”

He continued: “I have always wanted to grow an Elvis quiff and now I have enough hair at the front of my hairline to have a go at one.

“My hair is 1,000% better and it is lovely to hear the positive comments about the change in my appearance from everyone at Corrie.”

The 31-year-old, who celebrates 20 years on the ITV soap this year, described the procedure as the “modern day version of the boob job”.

“No man wants to go bald, particularly one in his early 30s like me, and this simple operation can completely transform your life,” he said.

“I was in and out in a day, back on the Corrie set in two weeks and, nine months later, I have a completely new hairline.

“I have never felt more body confident.”

Jack, who had the procedure at the Crown Clinic in Manchester, had previously been targeted by Twitter trolls about his hair line.

After one social media user told him his hair looked like “road kill”, the actor responded saying: “Hi, my hair has started to fall out because I went through a break-up with my girlfriend of 15 years last year. And was very stressed. I’m sorry.”
