Danniella Westbrook Slams Gogglebox Over Baasit Siddiqui's 'Cruel' Comment

The former EastEnders star claimed she is seeking legal advice over the remark.

Danniella Westbrook has hit out at Gogglebox for including derogatory comments about her on last week’s show.

The former EastEnders star claimed she is seeking legal advice after Baasit Siddiqui made reference to her losing her septum back in the 90s, at the height of her cocaine addition.

Speaking to father Sid and brother Umar during scenes on last Friday’s episode of the Channel 4 show, he asked if they would “rather have just one giant nostril... or just one giant eye”.

After he likened having one giant eye to being a Cyclops, he then said having one giant nostril would give them the appearance of Danniella Westbrook.

A number of people on social media criticised the comment at the time of it airing, with Danniella later breaking her silence on Tuesday.

She tweeted: “Thanks you every1 for the support u gave me about the derogatory comments @Channel4 allowed the siddiqui family too make . My manager is seeking legal advice , as trolling is not something we should take lightly [sic].”

Addressing the show’s executive producer, Danniella continued: “I for one am in shock that @Tanialalexander allowed that to make the edit.

“The show has always been a favourite of myself & my family, was a real shame that we had to witness such cruel comments on world kindness day. #BeKind #c4googlebox.

Danniella then replied to some individual tweets, adding: “Imagine you’re sitting with your family and that comes on.

“I face the fact I have made mistakes. But being clean and that being shown could cause a relapse or suicide to somebody who does not have the support I have.”

In another reply, she wrote: “I am the first to tell a joke, but not on national tv. It’s unfair when I’ve been a year clean and trying to mentally progress for me and my family.”

HuffPost UK has contacted a spokesperson for Channel 4 and Gogglebox for comment, and is awaiting responses.

Gogglebox airs Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
