In celebration of 45 years in the music industry, legendary Kwaai Jazz musician Don Laka has recorded his first studio album in seven years and it's beautiful.
On the album, titled "Reflections", Laka features artists from the younger generation, as he refers to them:
Kelly Khumalo, Dr Malinga, Emtee, Boloja and Mafikizolo, among others.
The 58-year-old 2013 Grammy nominee told HuffPost SA that the title of the album talks about his current position as far as his music career is concerned.
"This album is about me reflecting on the journey I walked musically for past 45 years. As I reflect, all I wanted to talk about was love. Yes, there were sour moments and a lot of downs along the way, but when you reflect, you don't want to focus on the downs, but only love," Laka said.
He said he learnt a lot while working with younger artists as they helped him to understand what the latest trends are musically.
"I can tell so many stories about how these youngsters helped this album come together.
"For example, Kelly told me during a press conference that she wanted to work with me on a song. Dr Malinga posted on my wall on Facebook that he was coming to the studio as he wanted to be featured on the album. I prepared a fast-tempo song for him, [but] he turned it down and insisted that he wanted to do a 'jazzy' song -- that conversation gave birth to the song, 'Ngizomlwela'," Laka said.
The album is available in online music stores as well as music stores nationwide.
