Genoa Bridge Reconstruction Starts Six Months After Deadly Collapse

Demolition has begun on parts of the Morandi bridge in Genoa, with a 900-tonne slab between pylons being removed. A section of the bridge collapsed in 2018, killing 43 people. The bridge connects Genoa with southern France, and the affected bridge has led to an interruption in trade. Three thousand tonnes of debris has already been removed from the site since work on the bridge started in December 2018. The new rebuilt bridge should be operational by 2020.
