How 'The Great British Bake Off' Finalists Compare When It Comes To Twitter Love

Of course, in a sense... Selasi's already won.

It’s only two more sleeps until this year’s ‘Great British Bake Off’ final, when one of the three finalists bakes their way to the trophy and a place in the nation’s hearts.

Of the three finalists Candice Brown, Andrew Smyth and Jane Beedle, it’s Candice who can probably lay claim to poll position, after three Star Baker weeks in this year’s competition.

Andrew Smyth was previously more technical than tasty, but he’s got progressively competent in the last few weeks, and his Showcase last week was a beauty.

Jane Beedle, meanwhile, has proved herself over and over again, never in danger of being eliminated, but equally yet to dazzle. Could this be her week?

On social media, it’s Candice who’s proved the winner thus far, with her Twitter following growing by a staggering 2189% since her series debut. She has an impressive 34,000 followers now.

Her most re-tweeted post was this heartwarming pic of the finalists “plus carebear” (we’re guessing that’s Selasi):

Andrew and Jane both trail Candice, with 26 thousand and 10.9 thousand followers respectively.

Andrew’s most shared post was this hilarious pic of him, apparently bumping into fellow contest Tom “at the shops”.

Jane’s most popular post wins hands-down, however, even if she was only passing it along. Jane’s barnet has received nearly as much attention as her bakes, something she’s the first to enjoy, here channelling ‘Inbetweener’ Jay Cartwright aka actor James Buckley.

However, it should be said that none of the finalists are the most mentioned ‘Bake Off’ contestant this year. That victory, inevitably, goes to Mr Selasi Gbormittah, whose exit last week sent the nation’s hearts plummeting.

He has had more mentions on social media than the entire three finalists combined, beating both Mel Giedroyc and Paul Hollywood into the bargain. Only Sue Perkins has received more attention, along with the one and only... Mary Berry.

‘The Great British Bake Off’ final airs on Wednesday 26 October at 8pm.
