Grooming Plotline Causes Consternation For Corrie Viewers

Coronation Street viewers were disgusted as Nathan Curtis revealed he is cheating on Bethany Platt with Mel Maguire as he continues to groom the schoolgirl to have sex with strangers.

Bethany, played by Lucy Fallon, has been at the centre of the harrowing plotline as she is sucked into Nathan's (Chris Harper) dark world.

Viewers watched in horror on Wednesday evening as she agreed to marry him after he manipulated her into telling him she would never leave him and would do anything for him and on Friday he asked her if another man was good looking enough to be invited to their "parties".

Last week she was raped by Nathan's friend Neil and now Neil has told Nathan his friend Ian is "angling for an invite".

The teenager shifted uncomfortably in her seat as she answered he was.

But it has also been revealed Nathan is continuing a relationship with Mel behind Bethany's back.

After Mel caught sight of Bethany's engagement ring, Nathan told her: "It will be on another dumb kid's finger in a month.

"Everything I have ever given you was real because what we have is real, never forget that," before pulling her onto his lap to kiss her.

Viewers said they suspected Nathan had already groomed Mel (Sonia Ibrahim), with one writing: "Am I the only one who likes Mel and feels sorry for her cos she's in a bad situation too?!?! #Corrie" while another wrote: "I think Mel has been in Bethany's shoes she should be telling her to leg it whilst she can #Corrie."

Others acted with shock that they were kissing, with soap fan Cerys writing: "Wait Nathan and Mel are still a thing" as others expressed disgust at the storyline.

Viewer Ash said: "This grooming storyline is so disturbing, Feel for Bethany, the horror is clear on her face. Wish someone would help the poor girl #Corrie," while Laura said: "Can't deal with how utterly vile those men are. Bethany must feel so scared and confused."

Fallon has already said things will get "loads worse" in the plot, which will continue throughout the summer.

Coronation Street continues on Monday on ITV at 7.30pm.
