Alan Davies will be returning as Jonathan Creek in a one-off 90-minute special, the BBC has confirmed.

In the story, supernatural mystery solver Creek is summoned to a creepy pile, to help a former client’s wife uncover the truth of her past from her ailing father, Nathan Clore, who just happens to be a veteran horror film director.

No news yet on when the show will be broadcast, but it will no doubt something to send chills on a winter evening later in the year.

‘Jonathan Creek’ ran semi-regularly between 1997 and 2004, then returning for specials in 2009, 2010 and 2013.

Along with Alan Davies, previous regulars included Caroline Quentin and Sheridan Smith. It won a BAFTA for Best Drama Series in 1998. Former guest stars included straight turns from comedy stars including Bob Monkhouse, Griff Rhys Jones, Rik Mayall, Jack Dee, Bill Bailey and Nigel Planer.
