Liverpool Central Library: Man Falls To His Death From Upper Floor

Merseyside Police are yet to establish the man's identity.

A man has died after falling from an upper floor at the Central Library in Liverpool on Wednesday morning.

Merseyside Police is currently in attendance at the library in the city centre.

In a statement, the police said: “We were called at just before 9:15am today, Wednesday 29 May, following reports of the sudden death of a man.

“Officers were called to the library, on William Brown Street, following reports the man had fallen from an upper floor.”

The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Staff and visitors to the library were left extremely distressed after witnessing the incident, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Claudz Wong was arriving at the library at the time of the incident. They tweeted saying: “When I arrived everyone was leaving and weren’t allowed to go back inside. Staff and people were crying.”

The police said they are trying to establish the identity of the man so they can inform his next of kin and investigate the circumstances of the incident.

The library is currently closed while enquiries are carried out.

Liverpool City Council said in a statement: “Central Library is closed to the public today following an incident, and all events that were scheduled have been cancelled.

“We will update people when we are able to reopen.”
