While Love Island has had a notable decrease in the amount of sex scenes aired this year, Curtis Pritchard and Maura Higgins did their best to reverse that trend on Wednesday night.

Viewers of the ITV2 reality show were subjected to the sight (and indeed sound) of the pair enjoying the pleasure of one another’s company on the outside day beds.

However, anyone who was already feeling queasy was pushed over the edge when they spotted a horrifying detail about what was unfolding on screen.

Specifically – Curtis’ socks.

The professional ballroom dancer committed a cardinal sin as he opted to keep his socks on while he and Maura got down to business, and people on Twitter could not hide their disgust...

Details about exactly what Maura and Curtis got up to remain a bit hazy, but Curtis was grinning like a Cheshire cat the following morning.

In the Beach Hut, he said: “Nothing happened in that way but Maura is a girl that knows what she wants and knows what she’s doing.”

Later speaking to pal Tommy Fury, he added: “Right bro. All I can say is, it was hot.”

A shocked Tommy replied: “Jesus Christ. Just a bit of thrusting. You dirty man.”

Prior to entering the villa, Curtis insisted he would not be partaking in any nocturnal activity, insisting to HuffPost: “I’d kiss somebody; if it’s any further than that I think it’s private business that should be done in your own time in private, it shouldn’t be publicised to the world, it’s making love and stuff like that, the world shouldn’t see that. It should be private and in your own time.

“I’ve been brought up with a lot of respect. That aspect of life is all about respect. You don’t just show it and flaunt it to the world.”

However, Maura is not the first girl Curtis has “done bits” with in the villa, as he and former partner Amy Hart confessed to getting frisky during their relationship.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
