A man has been charged with the murder of a one-year-old baby girl in Greater Manchester.

James Chadwick, 21, of Cross Lane, Radcliffe, had been arrested along with Chelsea Crilly, 19, from Warwick Road, Atherton.

Chadwick has now been charged with the murder of the girl and Crilly is accused of causing or allowing the death or serious harm of a child.

Police have not confirmed the pair’s relationship to the child.

Officers were first called at around 2.25pm on Wednesday to reports that a one-year-old girl was injured at a property on Cross Lane, Radcliffe.

Emergency services attended and the girl was taken to hospital, where she died despite best efforts of specialist doctors.

Superintendent Chris Bridge of Greater Manchester Police said: “This is a truly devastating incident that has led to a one-year-old girl losing her life.”

Both Chadwick and Crilly will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
