A man has been charged following a knife attack at London Central Mosque on Thursday.

Daniel Horton, 29, of no fixed address, was charged on Friday night with grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article, Scotland Yard said.

He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

Raafat Maglad, who is in his 70s and is the mosque’s muezzin, was treated in hospital for stab injuries after Thursday’s incident but was later released.

Eyewitnesses at the scene on Thursday described how worshippers tackled the attacker to the ground and restrained him until police arrived.

Maglad was taken to hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, and returned fewer than 24 hours later to the Regent’s Park mosque for Friday prayers.
