Music With A View - Benjamin Francis Leftwich

It's been an incredibly sad week for music with the passing of Amy Winehouse.

But it is important to remember, that there is still a vast amount of great music that struggles to get any of the exposure it deserves. It's a myth, that so few have that secret ingredient, the X Factor. It's just that very few get the support to step up to next level.

Making it big in music requires so much luck, that it's a kin to finding Willy Wonkas fifth Golden Ticket.

Nothing must make sense to a budding band or singer songwriter with ambitions for world domination. There is no true secret formula for success

Talent is a big bonus. But plenty have succeeded without it. Hard work? Meh. If you have the talent...why work hard? Character and charisma? Take away the guitar and microphone and most are inwardly shy.

No. I just think the record labels point their finger, invests the cash, and behold...a star is born.

We hear so many flat boring voices on shows such as the X Factor, when quite often, in the pub just around the corner, you will hear someone unique with something genuine to say.

So time to grab a pint! Go support your local heroes.

Introducing, Benjamin Francis Leftwich on the Dublin balcony.

I confess, Benjamin, is not a total unknown, having made a great impression in recent months, and having just released his debut album - Last Smoke Before The Snowstorm.

But it was the first I've seen or heard from him, so there is a very good chance its your first introduction.

He has a voice that is pure, yet rough. How is that possible?

I like. What do you think?

Apologies for the grey Dublin skyline...we are having a very dreary summer.
