Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter has filed a restraining order against his younger brother Aaron.

The temporary order has been granted and requires Aaron to stay at least 100 feet away from him, his family and his home in Las Vegas.

In a post shared on Twitter on Wednesday morning, the singer explained he took the step to “protect ourselves and family”.

“After careful consideration, my sister Angel and I regret that we were required to seek a restraining order against our brother Aaron today,” he wrote.

“In light of Aaron’s increasingly alarming behaviour and his recent confessions that he harbours thoughts and intentions of killing my pregnant wife and unborn child, we were left with no choice but to take every measure possible to protect ourselves and our family.

“We love our brother and truly hope he gets the proper treatment he needs before any harm comes to himself or anyone else.”

Aaron acknowledged the restraining order on Twitter but denied the allegations of threatening behaviour.

He said: “I am astounded at the accusations being made against me and I do not wish harm to anyone, especially my family.”

Aaron, who also enjoyed chart success and global fame in the late 1990s as a child singer, added: “Take care. @nickcarter. we’re done for life.”

The brothers’ relationship has been rocky over the years, and on Tuesday Aaron told fans that police had been to his home eight times in two weeks to check on his mental health.

A representative of Aaron had told Page Six that Aaron had been cooperating with authorities and that multiple wellness checks had been made, none of which had “ever resulted in any action.”

Nick enjoyed huge success as is a member of US boyband Backstreet Boys throughout the 90s and beyond, selling over 100million records in the process.

Their biggest hits include I Want It That Way, As Long As You Love Me and Everybody (Backstreets Back).

Earlier this year they were back at the top of the charts with their album, DNA, more than two decades after the group formed.

Nick and announced wife Lauren was expecting the couple’s second child in May.
