Nissan has provided city centre restaurants with yet another excuse to scrap reservations: self-driving chairs.
Designed to take the stress out of queuing, the ProPILOT is inspired by the safe distance sensors found in Nissan’s Serena minivan.
The chair glides forwards by identifying exactly how much space there is between itself and the chair in front.
Once a chair has reached the first place in the line, it will return to the back of the queue, making space for the next diner.
Nissan is inviting restaurants across Japan to apply for the chairs, which bear a similarity to Nissan’s intelligent parking seats, launched earlier this year.
A spokesperson said: “The ProPILOT Chair appeals to anyone who has ever spent hours standing in line.”
