Normal People star Daisy Edgar-Jones has admitted she was disappointed to have missed out on an Emmy nomination for her performance in the hit show.

Daisy – who portrays Marianne in the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s critically-acclaimed book – was widely considered one of the year’s biggest snubs when the Emmy nominations were announced in July, particularly as her co-star Paul Mescal received a nod.

In a new interview with Grazia magazine, Daisy revealed that she was “initially disappointed” when her name was absent from the list of nominees, but quickly added: “I’m only 22, I’ve still got to earn my stripes.”

Paul Mescal previously told Vulture of the snub: “If it was me I would have given her all the love in that category.

“I can’t speak highly enough of the work she did on the show.

“I know there are extraordinary actresses nominated in that category, but I think Daisy’s work is just phenomenal in this.”

As well as Paul’s recognition, Normal People received a total of four nominations at the upcoming Emmys, including Outstanding Directing For A Limited Series, Outstanding Writing For A Limited Series and Outstanding Casting For A Limited Series.

Daisy and Paul were recently reunited at the TV Baftas, posing on the red carpet with a tape measure to show they were sticking to social distancing guidelines.

She noted that despite Normal People’s global success, this marked the first time she and Paul had “done an event together, because everything else we’ve done has been over a laptop camera”.

“It was so lovely to see Paul, from two metres away,” Daisy added.

“We had a quick drink afterwards, but we are still desperate to properly celebrate with the whole crew,” she said.
