Paul Mescal has been setting hearts racing as Connell in Normal People, but he’s about to break them all with some news about a second series.
The Irish actor has admitted that there’s currently no plans for him and Daisy Edgar-Jones to reprise their roles in the hit BBC Three series.
Normal People – adapted from Sally Rooney’s novel of the same name – debuted on iPlayer last month, with the final episode serving up a somewhat sad ending for its lead characters Connell and Marianne.
Connell was seen deciding to study in New York with Marianne choosing not to go with him, leaving the future of their long-term romance with a big question mark over it.
However, it looks unlikely we’ll find out what happened to the couple next, with Paul telling Wonderland magazine a second series is “not on the cards”.

He said: “I do feel like the series that has finished is its own thing, and I’m totally comfortable with that. It’s not on the cards at the moment, but if I got the opportunity to play him again, amazing.”
Of where he thinks the characters are, Paul added: “Oh, there’s no question that character to me is still alive and breathing and very much has a lot of life left to live, and has a relationship with Marianne that is maybe unfinished.”
While fans of Normal People will no doubt be left feeling emotional about the news, Paul was recently given something to smile about.
The actor was left shocked and delighted last week after Sia shared a video of his hidden talents.
