The Royal Mint has announced the launch of a commemorative coin to mark 100 years since the first Remembrance Day on 11 November 1919.
Designed by Harry Brockway, the coin is decorated with a single Flanders red poppy and the iconic phrase, “We will remember them” – which originates from Laurence Binyon’s poem ’For the Fallen”.
The limited edited coin – rare for its colour details – pays tribute to the men and women who lost their lives in the war.
The design features a single poppy, the symbol of remembrance, is intended as “a powerful tribute to servicemen and women across the world who’ve lost their lives in conflicts past and present”, said Nicola Howell, director of The Royal Mint’s Consumer Division.
“Since 2017 The Royal Mint has issued a special Remembrance Day UK commemorative coin to pay tribute to those who served in war and this year’s coin marks a century of remembrance,” Howell said.
The limited edition coin is available to shop now from The Royal Mint and starts from £17 for the silver uncirculated coin up to £2,375 for the gold proof coin.
A donation from each coin purchased will be made to Imperial War Museums.
