Sri Lankan authorities have lowered the death toll from the Easter Sunday attacks to 253 people, citing chaotic bombing scenes for the discrepancy.

Earlier estimates suggested at least 359 people were killed.

It comes after the Foreign Office warned against all but essential travel to Sri Lanka following the Easter Sunday bombings.

Nine bombers co-ordinated blasts targeting churches and hotels in the country, injuring hundreds more.

One suicide bomber reportedly educated in the UK was radicalised after leaving Britain, his sister has said.
