Stacey Dooley has hit back after her latest TV show came in for criticism before anyone has even seen it.

On Tuesday, the Strictly Come Dancing champion was announced as the host of new BBC series, This Is MY House.

It will see four people walk into a home and declare that they own the property, with only one of them telling the truth, while a team of celebrity judges will have to work out who is the honest homeowner.

However, the show prompted much discussion online after the announcement, with Stacey calling out some of the “unnecessarily cruel” comments.

She tweeted: “Reading some of the unnecessarily cruel comments re my new gig.

“I got the same criticism doing Strictly and Glow Up. I did well on Strictly and Glow Up went on to be a global series, that was recommissioned and Netflix took.

“I don’t know why this platform is so unkind.”

Stacey previously said of her latest project: “I love to see inside people’s houses, so I’m made up to be involved in a gig that allows us to do that in a format that will bring some fun, humour and warmth at a time when we are all so craving escapism.”

This Is MY House is the latest project for Stacey since winning Strictly in 2018.

She has hosted two series of make-up challenge series Glow Up for BBC Three, and fronted behind-the-scenes show EastEnders: Secrets From The Square when the soap fell off the air due to the pandemic earlier this year.

Stacey, who is now in a relationship with her former Strictly partner Kevin Clifton, has also hosted two episodes of Panorama and presented documentary series Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over for the W channel.

This Is MY House will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer next year.
