ITV2′s winter Love Island replacement The Cabins did not appear to be everyone’s type on paper as it debuted on Monday night.

The reality show got a mixed reaction from viewers, as a bunch of singletons coupled up inside some woodland lodges in the hope of finding love.

The format sees the couples get to know their potential partners in their own cabin in the space of 24 hours, before they have to decide if they would like to spend more time together, or call it a day.

The Cabins was commissioned after this year’s January series of Love Island was cancelled due to the pandemic, and with many in desperate need of a new reality show to sink their teeth into, it filled that void perfectly...

For others though, it paled in comparison...

However, the show also won praise for its representation of LGBTQ relationships – something Love Island has repeatedly faced criticism for not doing.

Contestants having access to their phones while in the cabins proved to be a controversial format point...

But there was one even bigger problem with the show – it was making some people want to book a mini break, and given the lockdown announced just moments before the episode aired, that’s now somewhat impossible.

The Cabins continues weeknights at 9pm on ITV2.
