The Masked Singer fans were left stunned on Saturday night, as the unexpected identity of Dragon was revealed in a double elimination.

Former Great British Bake Off presenter Sue Perkins was unveiled as being behind the mask during the semi final, and hardly anyone saw it coming.

None of the panel – made up of Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan, Rita Ora and guest Matt Lucas – had managed to work out her identity, with their guesses including Michelle Visage and Sandi Toksvig.

Many on social media had also believed RuPaul’s Drag Race star Courtney Act was the celebrity inside Dragon’s costume.

While Sue’s name did previously pop up on Twitter, for the majority, her reveal left them in shock...

After her unmasking, Sue said: “Being Dragon is liberating and brilliant - I have been able to be playful and silly and childlike, and things you can’t be.

“I would never ever sing, I am terrified of performing in public. What would be interesting is me singing without the mask, let’s see if it broke the spell for me.“

She added: “I’m usually up a mountain or down a river these days - so I’m probably the last person that anyone would think of in a musical entertainment context. I got an awful lot of joy out of hoodwinking the panel.“

Later in the show, Gabrielle was unmasked as Harlequin, with all of the panellists bar Davina correctly guessing her identity.

She said: “I’m a very nervous performer and I thought by doing this maybe I can go out of my comfort zone, and it was a great experience.

“Thank you, the fact I got here, and with the great singers we have in the competition, I’m surprised I came so far so thank you.”

Sausage, Badger and Robin now remain in the competition and will battle it out in next week’s final.

The Masked Singer concludes on Saturday at 7pm on ITV.
