'This Life' Started 20 Years Ago Today! Where Are They Now?

The show was one of the defining dramas of its era.

'This Life' launched itself on our TV screens 20 years ago today.

The BBC Two series followed the lives of five law graduates as they embarked on their careers while sharing a house in South London. To be honest, there was a lot more drug-taking, romping and rowing than actual working, but that all helped viewers turn into appointment-to-view TV, and the show was later included in the BFI’s list of greatest TV programmes of all time.

The cast all became very familiar faces, but where are they now? We catch up...

Jack Davenport
Following his role in this and ‘Coupling’, Jack Davenport broke onto the big screen in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ series, and ‘The Talented Mr Ripley’. Most recently, he starred in US drama series ‘FlashForward’ and ‘Smash’, and was back on British TV in 2013 in drama series ‘Breathless’.
Amita Dhiri
Following many TV guest roles following her success in ‘This Life’, Amitra had a recurring role in ‘Judge John Deed’. She joined the cast of ‘The Bill’ in 2007, and stayed until it ended in 2010.
Andrew Lincoln
Unlike his lackadaisical character in the series, Andrew Lincoln has made it very, very big, as the lead character Rick Grimes in one of the world’s biggest TV shows, ‘The Walking Dead’. This follows roles in Channel 4’s ’Teachers’ and a small part in rom-com ‘Love, Actually’ in 2003.
Jason Hughes
Although the elusive Warren stole the show with his smart asides in the first series and his sudden return in the finale of the second, Jason Hughes later found bigger fame with another role. Following appearances in shows including ‘Waking the Dead’ and ‘Mine all Mine’, he became a very familiar face on TV, thanks to his role of sidekick DS Ben Jones, in Midsomer Murders’, a role he played for eight years.
Ramon Tikaram
Previously a singer, Ramon was more famous for being pop star Tanita’s younger brother before his appearance in ‘This Life’ flung him to stardom. Although he went quiet for a while afterwards, he joined ‘EastEnders’ in 2009, playing Qadim Shah, Amira’s father, a role he has performed in three separate stints. In 2013, he appeared in another giant US series, ‘Game of Thrones, where he played Prendahl.
Daniela Nardini
With Anna one of the most memorable performances of the era, Daniela Nardini seemed set for big things after collecting her BAFTA Award for Best Actress. As well as frequent guest TV roles, she appeared opposite Robert Glenister and Greg Wise in the 2002 film ‘Sirens’ but increasingly concentrated on the stage. She was most recently seen in BBC One’s ‘Waterloo Road’.
