Two men are in hospital after they were shot in an Essex seaside town.
Police were called to Somnes Avenue in Canvey Island after residents reported the sound of gunshots at around 3.30am on Saturday.
The men, both in their 20s and from the area, had each been shot in the upper body, Essex Police said. Neither is thought to be in a life-threatening condition.
A police spokeswoman said: "A 22-year-old man from Canvey has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody for questioning."
Officers were today making inquiries at the scene after cordoning the road off.
Residents shared their concerns on social media after hearing gunshots, a helicopter and police activity in the area around Somnes Avenue, with one man saying he had seen a car in the road boxed in by three police cars.
The island was also left gridlocked on Saturday morning after the incident, with islanders venting their frustrations online.
Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
