[VIDEO] And the Best Actor is... an Oxymoron

I need to make one thing clear; I don't hate actors.

I mean I don't hate anyone, that's a really strong word and it's not healthy to feel hatred so I definitely don't hate anyone... except maybe actors.

An actor once said to me that part of the reason anyone tries to do acting seriously is the desire 'to be someone else'. You see actors or actresses almost all have the same problem. They desperately need approximately 200 times the level of validation from other people when compared with a normal human (that's science). However in order to get this validation they become someone else and play a part.

The problem is that when an audience gives them the validation they so desperately need its being given to that 'someone else' - the character - not them at all.

So what is the result of this conflict? How do we close the gap in the circle?

Simple - awards ceremonies.

Here the actual person, not the character, is 'honoured' with an award for... well... doing their job. The result is an almost unwatchable out pouring of emotion, gratitude, and self love while clutching a shiny object.

We accept this because we've seen it so much - but ask yourself if you received an employee of the month award would you cry? Would you feel the need to thank you parents? Or the person that did your hair?

My quick tip for awards season - watch how many actors and actresses fail to thank the writers of their scripts (either entirely or with any kind of feeling). Actors hate acknowledging writers because it's the same as acknowledging that they are expendable. After all if it was the words they're saying that was important - well we could just get someone else to do that couldn't we.

If you are a tremendous person whose an actor or you know a tremendous person whose an actor then please do leave a comment and help me not to hate; because it only leads to suffering and the dark side and no one wants that. In the meantime here's a video blog in which I make the only broadcastable comment about Margaret Thatcher I've ever made...
