In news that will come as a surprise to precisely no one, Beyoncé was the big winner at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night (28 August).
Of the 10 awards she was nominated for, the Queen Bey triumphed in eight categories, including the coveted Video Of The Year award, which she won for her ‘Formation’ music video.
Upon collecting her Video Of The Year prize, she name-checked her husband and daughter, Jay Z and Blue Ivy (the latter of whom was in attendance, as Beyoncé’s “date” for the evening), before dedicating the award to “the people of New Orleans”, where portions of the ‘Formation’ video were filmed.

The star also took home Best Female Video for ‘Hold Up’, and beat stiff competition from… erm… herself in the Best Choreography category, again for ‘Formation’.
She and Kendrick Lamar lost out to Fifth Harmony and Ty Dolla Sign in the Best Collaboration category, while David Bowie’s stunning ‘Lazarus’ video also beat Beyoncé for Best Art Direction.

Elsewhere, Calvin Harris won Best Male Video over Drake, Kanye West and The Weeknd, while Fifth Harmony’s ‘All In My Head (Flex)’ was named Song Of The Summer (no, we’re not sure we’ve actually heard it either).
