Worshippers Praise ‘Hero’ Who Stands Guard At Brisbane Mosque During Friday Prayers

"Some heroes don’t wear capes, they wear hi-vis vests."

Mosque-goers in an Australian city have praised a local Good Samaritan for standing guard at their place on worship during Friday evening prayers.

Worshipper Mojib Ullah posted a picture of himself standing alongside a man wearing a high-visibility jacket, who has been named on social media as Matt, at the entrance of the building in Brisbane.

In a Facebook post he wrote: “[In the] Aftermath of New Zealand attacks many kind hearted, beautiful Australians visited the Masjids across Australia and offered condolences, supports and loves.

“Since then this non-Muslim brother comes to Darra Masjid on Friday Juma and guards the praying Muslims to ensure their safety. During this Ramadan he comes every night while Muslims perform Tarawih (the night prayer)

“Please keep him in your prayers!”

Ullah was referring to the Christchurch mosque attacks in May which saw 50 people killed and dozens wounded when an Australian gunman opened fire during Friday prayers.

Brenton Harrison Tarrant faces 50 murder charges and 39 attempted murder charges following the attacks on two mosques.

The man guarding the Brisbane mosque has been praised for his actions on social media.

Carolina Caliaba wrote under the post on Facebook: “Some heroes don’t wear capes: they wear hi-vis vests! How great to see this picture of two amazing people: Mojib and Matt.”

Khaled-Oula Elomar added: “This man is an exemplary human. An impeccable human. A gentleman. A scholar. Most of all, it just goes to show that faith doesn’t define ones qualities. The heart, the mind, the soul, the emotions and the brain are what define us as decent, loving, caring and respectful human beings.”
