De-clutter your computers too!
One thing that is very apparent to me when I de-clutter the lives of my clients, is that a completed job is much more likely to stay organised. That means slowly touching each part of a life that is not being enjoyed enough due to clutter.
I was really interested in one specific area and how this area could be helped. It's something I previously had problems with and it was making me feel uncomfortable. My laptop!
I needed to get work backed up
I needed to get my files in a more practical order
I needed to learn from an IT mind the tips that can keep me practically organised
I needed to know if there were any programs I am missing out on that I should have
I needed to know how to set up my iPad!!!
I needed the small questions answered
I called upon the help of my wonderful friend and self confessed IT Geek, the very cool Matthew Pyman to give me some more advice.
(I ask you to think of the episode of Sex and the City where Carrie looses her work from her Mac that dies, almost crying at the Apple shop!)
Here's what Matt says:
'Ever thought about buying a house without house insurance? Would you go abroad without medical cover? All these safety nets we choose to implement in life to cover for any accidents that may occur.
So why is it your precious data like family photos can be overlooked. Statistics such as only 57% of people back up their data and only 25 % are confident that everything is backed up correctly. This never ceases to amaze me.
Imagine that sickening feeling when someone tells you that your family photos have been lost and you realise that you have no backup to rely on. Or that the backup is out of date and hasn't backed up correctly for months?
With data all over the place in our home life it can often seem an impossible task to keep track of all of your important files. You need to make sure you have the best systems in place to make using your computers a breeze and less like a maze of information!'
Matt has recently made sure my Mac Book is backed up, linked me to iCloud (properly) helped me put the important files I have for work neatly in the correct storing sections, and generally made me feel more confident so that if something did happen to my computer it would not be so much of a problem!
