A sudden surge in veteran record producer Pete Waterman's popularity on Twitter has baffled users of the social network, with many tweeters speculating that the man behind Kylie, Bananarama and Rick Astley had met an untimely end. Fortunately, the reality is rather more banal.
Pete Waterman lost his temper over the unglamorous issue of high speed trains during an interview on Channel 4 news on Thursday. Waterman, who has a passion for all things train-related, is the founder of a model railway company and the owner of a steam train restoration workshop.
During the interview, the pop mogul clashed with anti-High Speed Two campaigner Joe Rukin about the merits of the proposed new high speed line, becoming increasingly agitated as the interview progressed. When Rukin dared to suggest extending trains already in the system, Pete exploded:
"You don't even know anything about railways!"
