Nuclear power is not clean, is not safe, and never can be.

rooftop pv solar, offshore wind, and waste bio fuels bio char can supply all the world energy needs, 24/7, forever, safe, clean and already cheaper than nukes or clean coal, and cheaper than oil if you include the oil wars.

Outlaw all new nuclear power plants. Close the 10% least safe existing plants.

End the wars, tax the rich, and use the money for green energy installation.

7 years we can replace all fossil and nukes withe green energy in an all out program, but not if we keep wasting time and money on disastrously failed nukes or fossils.

Nagasaki, Aug. 9 (Jiji Press)–Representatives of five support groups for hibakusha, or atomic bomb survivors, in Nagasaki asked Prime Minister Kan on Tuesday to clearly state that Japan will abandon nuclear energy following the crisis at the stricken Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power station.

I think it is like linking War Nukes with peace time Nuke Pollution caused by Nature and TEPCO lack of forethought!

The link is dishonest.

While we are on the topic of Nagasaki, the anti nukes should know that it was learned that the chances a survivor would get cancer long after the event, was only slightly greater than normal....even if their exposure resulted in acute radiation poisoning!

Choose your words more carefully. Fukushima did not "blow up" as a nuclear device. That was hydrogen (chemical) reactions. You are directing your reply to someone with expert technical knowledge in this area and you do not realize how silly you sound.

Japan nuclear crisis: Fukushima alert eased
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-14463055
Restrictions on residents living between 20-30km (12-19 miles) from the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant will be eased, Japanese officials say.

The government issued an alert to people in the zone to be prepared to evacuate at short notice after the 11 March earthquake and tsunami.

But officials say the alert will be lifted in the coming weeks, as they try to reassure people the area is safe.

"Prime Minister Naoto Kan, struggling to hold on to power amid collapsing popularity, has taken on the anti-nuclear cause and promised to reduce Japan's reliance on nuclear energy."

This is why Merkel did her about face. In the end, its just politicians capitalizing on a fearful public.

Kan's days are numbered.

Merkel is a trained "physicist" not a nuclear engineer. The subject of physics is very broad. If you look at her academic background, it in no way qualifies her to operate and design a nuclear facility. They have nuclear engineering degrees in German universities (and they still will). If you claim she has expert knowledge, then why didnt she get a degree in that discipline, as I have.

Choose your words more carefully. You are directing your reply to an expert in this particular field.

Mommy is 73 years old and lives in California. She also is proud of her nuclear engineer son.

Contaminated seafood and government cover-up at Fukushima
http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/news/Blogs/nuclear-reaction/contaminated-seafood-and-government-cover-up-/blog/36285/
Our team of radiation experts has found high levels of radiation in seafood caught by Japanese fishermen off the coast of Japan. This, along with the news that the Japanese government covered up the true extent of radiation releases from Fukushima and so put people in danger, shows it is long past time that urgent, transparent action was taken by officials.

About those Fuel Rods?
1. Lifetime - About 18 Months
2. Time To Cool - About 10 Years
3. "Dangerously Radioactive" - About 10,000 Years
4. Existing Storage Space - Gone By 2015

Actually its cooling time is dependent on discharge burnup. Typical time 5 years

Dangerously radioactive as long as its not recycled back into fuel

Storage space - ask Harry Reid. We have plenty of it.

You are smart enough to know that technologies can be developed and utilized, and that politicians exist to wreck them.

Actually Harry Reid is SAVING NEVADA AND THE COLORADO WATER SHED!
+
Nature destroyed the reactors by exceeding their G ratings by a large enough amount to start the rectors leaking water which then allowed them to start melting thru! This same thing could happen any day in America because our reactors have even a smaller G rating... Right!

http://ex-skf.blogspot.com/2011/08/radioactive-rice-to-come-rice-growing.html

Japanese people who watched the video or knew about it from Kino's tweets are thanking ZDF for having shown up and asked questions at the press conference. It's been a very long time any foreign media showed any interest in these conferences given by TEPCO/government on Fukushima I Nuke Plant and radiation contamination.

I hope more foreign media (not their Japanese bureaus) will come and ask hard questions.

35,000 becquerels/kg of cesium in soil would translate into 2,275,000 becquerels/square meter (35,000 x 65), which is way above the forced evacuation criterion in the Chernobyl accident (1,480,000 becquerels/square meter).
