Investigation Launched Into A-Level And GCSE Exam Paper Blunders

Students Asked To Help With Inquiry Into Exam Paper Blunders

The government agency responsible for exam standards has launched an investigation into last summer's exam error blunders.

Mistakes in the papers ranged from printing and content errors, to software problems in on-screen exams. The blunders were present in GCSE, AS and A-level papers across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

OfQual are asking students affected by the errors to fill in a survey by September 19 in an attempt to find out why the mistakes were made and the full impact of the errors on students.

A National Union of Students estimate around 100,000 students were affected by the errors, with 20,000 of those being A-level pupils hoping to start university this autumn.

The errors were condemned by general secretary of the National Union of Teachers Christine Blower.

"The spate of errors in this year's examinations was inexcusable and it is vital that any appeals arising are dealt with as a matter of urgency", she said.

The blunders were made by AQA and Edexcel, with the latter also accidentally posting students' results online a week early.
