Kate McCann, the mother of missing Madeleine, felt like she'd been "mentally raped" after details from her private diary were printed in News of the World, it has emerged.

The Leveson Inquiry heard from the lawyers of McCann who described how the diary went missing after a police search in 2007.

In September the following year News of the World published the personal details in a piece headlined: Kate's Diary: In Her Own Words".

David Sherborne, the McCann's lawyer, told the inquiry: "How did the News of the World get this from the police? We may never know now.

"The publication of this material with a picture on the front page suggesting she had provided this herself left her feeling mentally raped, her husband says, and is it any wonder?"

The Leveson Inquiry will next week hear from witnesses including JK Rowling, Hugh Grant, Charlotte Church and Bob and Sally Dowler, the parents of Milly Dowler, whose mobile was hacked by News of the World.

I don't think it was Maddy crying. I think it was Kate who was crying "Maddy Maddy"...........

All the evidence says she died in the Apartment 5A on the night of the 3rd of May 2007. She isn't coming back alive.

Why should we give either of them sympathy? They left three young children alone abroad while they went out, dissmissing the Childminding service and expect us to forgive them or feel sorry for them. The only person I feel sorry for is Maddie, anyone with parents like that deserves better.

Because Maddie died earlier in that apartment. K. phoned someone many times the very early morning.....why?

Well i have read the posts on here and i can say hand on heart that i have never left my child alone!
Also anyone who leaves their chilren alone to go for a meal and drinks which they did? and in a foreign county as well? they should have been done for neglect!
I also think the whole thing was a huge cover up and that couple know more than what they are letting on.
Now you can reply all you like to my post but i have my opinion as does everyone.
Allot of people think the same as me but are too scared to say it?
They are acting like celebs and it's weird and i really think they know what happened and we the public will never find out!

Isn't it surprising how self-righteous people are. "We never left our children alone". What never? Well hardly ever! And all these comments condemning the parents, yet not one with any concrete theory or suggestion as to who the kidnappers might be. Not one expressing any sympathy for the plight of that poor child, the utter bewilderment and terror she must have felt waking to see strange faces around her and possibly not friendly faces. The mental anguish of a 4 year old with no loving parents to comfort her from the nightmare she was experiencing. But no. Everybody must give those naughty parents the stick and give themselves a pat of the back for being so virtuous themselves.

Over quite a few years every parent I have known has left thier child at some point to pop to the shops or go one or 2 doors down the road. however after this case NOBODY has EVER left thier child for an INSTANT. The hatred these perfect people pour out at this couple is quite sickening.
I thought the issue here is how the NOTW got someones diary from the police during a major investigation and why they published exerpts knowing full well they had no right to do so?

It is reported that the Team had a mole in the Portuguese Police who was paid to leak info to them.
I have no doubt that all 'leaks' were made with their own ends in mind.
The only complaint was that the paper published damaging stuff as well as the fluffy nonsense.
No complaint was ever made about the supportive material, however far-fetched it might be.

As for 'mental rape', I, for one, find K's writing of her 'daughter's perfect genitals being destroyed by a monster' to demonstrate mental problems of a different kind.

I wonder how many of those parents outraged by the McCanns behaviour have a definitive legal ruling from an English High Court Judge stating that they are ( and I quote ) " loving and responsible parents " - my betting is not many - well the McCanns do - se ruling of the High Court , Family Division 20th July 2008 !!!!!

Well, that settles it then!

Their behaviour was perfectly justified, ideal parents, out on the pee whilst the child is left alone, totally acceptable and role models for other parents.

What planet are you from?

Well whether you like it or not that was the official legal ruling by Mrs Justice Hogg - and it is a comtempt of court to dispute the ruling of a High Court Judge outside the judicial system .

Whether you like or dislike the McCanns is irrelevant - they broke no laws in the UK nor in Portugal and they have official legal rulings supporting that position

And I trust you have a legal document of title to London Bridge - others who rtreied to sel it without one ended up behind bars for fraud

I feel the same whenever I hear anything about her or her husband. All too often for my liking these two seem to think it's all about me me me!!!!. At the end of it all there is still the question of where is that little child?????
