For many boxing fans, watching Muhammad Ali was akin to witnessing a piece of art, or poetry in motion. In his pomp Ali would have happily agreed.

Now, as our greatest living sporting icon approaches his 70th birthday, a gallery in Manchester has decided to honour him with an exhibition of some of the best artworks inspired by the former champion and Olympic gold medal winner.

Generation Pop has gathered several pieces from around the world, each one approved and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from ‘Muhammad Ali Enterprises’.

Running from 17 January to 17 February, the Muhammad Ali Art Exhibition includes piece by British artist Paul Oz, who is an official artist for the Bruce Lee family and American artist Joe Petruccio who in 2006 was chosen by MGM and Sly Stallone to create a series of paintings to honour 30 years of Rocky.

Ali is was and will always be the greatest. His influence has gone beyond sport, his courage and dignity in the face of naked racism by the US govt was inspiring to so man people around the world.

One thing I cannot tolerate is some blow hard that goes around bragging about how he can do this or how he's going to do that. I'm sure you all know somebody like that. However, that would not even come close to discribing Mohammad Ali.He was able to back up what he said he could do. You gotta admire that and as far as art goes, and photography is I believe an art form, the best shot ever was Neil Leifer's photo of the Champ standing over Sonny Liston after a first round punch May 25th 1965. With regards to the being the "greatest" claim I can say that I have never seen anyone better. Oh, I thought that Joe Frazier was the second greatest.

Posterising pics to create so-called paintings why? Because photographs of Ali cannot be bettered by paintings. There are fantastic photographs. Paintings will never surpass them because paintings are depictions, photographs are him as he was.

These are great images of the multi-talented Ali. What a tragedy that his blood sport induced such terrible damage to his brain.

My Main Man. Get 'em CHAMP. I admire this man. From the arrogance of his youth to the iconic legend he is today. His has been quite a journey. Arrogant? I would have to say yeah. Confident? Make that anotha yeah. But one's man's arrogance is anotha man's confidence. In my opinion. Muhammad Ali. I guess those who know who he is have their own perspective. I admire his refusal to be drafted. I admire his detrmination to regain his title. I admire his courageous fight with Parkinson's disease. The man has had up's and down's as we all do. He has maintained a humility that most found lackin' in his youth. But what young man isn't full of himself. Given the boxin' gift he had--who would expect less. Regardless of what othas may think of Muhammad Ali I rate him up there with my true CHAMP, my Dad. May GOD continue to bless Muhammad Ali for the remainder of his life. Life.
