Donald Trump To Save Scotland From Wind Farm 'Madness'

US tycoon Donald Trump today said he would help save Scotland from "this madness" by speaking out against wind turbines.

The flamboyant businessman has been invited to appear before a Holyrood committee which is probing the Scottish Government's green energy targets.

The American billionaire will give evidence to MSPs on the Scottish Parliament's Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee on the issue.

He said: "It will be my great honour to testify about the impact that these atrocious industrial wind turbines will have on Scotland, which are ruining the landscapes and environments all over the world."

MSPs on the committee are investigating how achievable the Scottish Government's 2020 renewable energy targets are.

Mr Trump was invited to give evidence after he branded wind turbines "ugly monstrosities" and "horrendous machines", and decided to bankroll an anti-wind farm campaign "to save Scotland".

He has already expressed his opposition to a proposed offshore wind farm near the site of the luxury golf resort he is building in Aberdeenshire.

Mr Trump has halted work on his resort until a decision on the wind farm is made by the Scottish Government.

Today, Mr Trump said he had "invested a tremendous amount of money in Scotland because it is a place of great beauty and is also the birthplace of my mother".

He added: "Interestingly, it will be the greatest gift to my mother to stop this atrocity, even more important than having built what is already being considered to be the greatest golf course anywhere in the world.

"I look forward to testifying and helping Scotland save itself from this madness."

Mr Trump has also written to Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond, urging him: "Please do not ruin Scotland's environment and its greatest asset - outside of its people - its magnificent coastline."

matt ridley.I think your comment is spot on,the others must be on some hallucinogenic drug.
the eco fanatic doesn't except the truth about these uneconomical monsters that kill thousands
of flying things.every one is subsidised by the taxpayer and the profit is made from this subsidy.
USA has many of these machines that are not working because the subsidies have been reduced
so they aren't maintained, not worth the owners time and money. They won't solve any energy crisis which this country is well and truly on the road to.

The Donald is an environmentalist tree hugger today or is it coastline hugger. Tomorrow it will be to abolish the EPA because it is stopping development of oil fields and that is bad for the economy. SO either Scotland is more deserving of good environment than the US or this is more opportunistic flap to be on tv or be heard.

It is inconceivable to think that there are people out there that could be outraged and offended by a graceful windmill...

They are elegant... interesting to look at... and they are generating power.

I would rather look at windmills than a Coal power plant, Oil Refinery, Nuclear Power Station.... a Mountain Top Removal site, a Tar Sands extraction, an Oil Spill.

We can indeed meet all of our energy needs with renewable green energy- and every bit of the technology is going to be required for us to get there.

The Donald should be hung, drawn and quartered for his selling out the human race's future... so his pompous arse can have a golf course..

I think the wind farms are amazing! Since living in Germany I have traveled a little bit and every time I see them I'm in awe. Wind turbines are so big and powerful. They are in no way ugly or horrendous. they shed light on our future for good clean energy, and give humanity a chance to save ourselves and planet from destruction. There is no Planet B

Oh please.....he is just upset they couldn't harness the wind coming out of his big mouth.

As one of the residents on teh menie Estate where Trump has already destroyed a Site of Special Scientific Interest I feel I need to point out taht he is only being asked to testify as light relief between the serious participants at the hearing. No one takes him seriously, not even those of us who have had water power and telephone service cut off at various times.

Wind power market penetration globally is expected to reach 3.35 percent by 2013 and 8 percent by 2018.

Better get used to those twirly thingees peeps.

SkunkTop is just mad because he doesn't have the tallest thing on the horizon. Let him erect a towering casino or flagpole or smokestack just a bit higher than the highest wind mill and he should calm right down.

Cheers.

Actually all their power comes from the gas backup.

To the nearest whole number, the percentage of the world’s energy that comes from wind turbines today is: zero. Despite the regressive subsidy (pushing pensioners into fuel poverty while improving the wine cellars of grand estates), despite tearing rural communities apart, killing jobs, despoiling views, erecting pylons, felling forests, killing bats and eagles, causing industrial accidents, clogging motorways, polluting lakes in Inner Mongolia with the toxic and radioactive tailings from refining neodymium, a ton of which is in the average turbine — despite all this, the total energy generated each day by wind has yet to reach half a per cent worldwide.

That only proves we need MORE turbines. The San Gorgonio windfarm outside Palm Springs generates a good deal of electricity.
