How Would Doctor Who And Postman Pat Vote?

The Huffington Post UK  |  By Posted: 6/04/2012 12:39 Updated: 6/04/2012 13:43

Have you ever wondered how Doctor Who or Postman Pat would vote? Of course you have. How do we know? Because polling firm YouGov asked you.

The pollsters surveyed 1,744 adults between 4 and 5 April on which political parties they thought fictional characters would back at the next election.

Norwich local and DJ Alan Partridge was viewed to be a strong supporter of the Conservative Party, with 43% of those polled believing that he would vote for David Cameron.

Madcap seaside hotel owner Basil 'don't mention the war' Fawlty was also, unsurprisingly, seen by 57% of people to be a supporter of the Tories, while 12% believed he would back Ukip.

As for Doctor Who, 23% felt he would back the Green Party - he does spend most of his time trying to save the planet after all.

Cringe-worthy David Brent was seen by 42% of people to be a Tory, while a whopping 87% of people felt Hyacinth Bucket (it's pronounced 'Bouquet') would also back the Conservatives.

Labour were seen to have the strong support of Eastender Phil Mitchell (42%), but 23% thought he would back the far-right BNP.

Postman Pat and Fireman Sam were also viewed by an overwhelming number of people to be supporters of the Labour Party - perhaps because they are public sector workers who will have seen their pay frozen by the coalition.

Of those surveyed 29% thought Pat would vote for Ed Miliband (presumably by postal ballot) and 33% thought Sam would do the same.

But 12% of Sam fans, recognizing his Welsh roots, thought he would be more likely to vote for Plaid Cymru.

Unfortunately people were not polled on who they thought Jess the cat would vote for. George Galloway perhaps?

Well actually Postman Pat would probably vote Liberal Democrat. Most people in this constituency do and the area round his old Post Office is solid Liberal and i know 'cause i was out canvassing last night!
I live in "Greendale" and am sitting here waiting for him to bring my morning post, and most people here vote Liberal as well!

What's the story mourning Tories?

Never really thought who The Doctor would Support for lol, Quite hard. He's idealistic like a lefty, but decisive, and sometimes brutal, like a Tory. Lol he can make an execution seem like mercy!

Plus there was that time when he brought down a Labour government through a vicious propaganda campaign! "Doesn't she look tired?" Poor Harriet!

Yeah think I'd have to say he'd vote green as well.

Well, if more & more rural villages get closed down, I can see Pat unfortunately losing his job. He'll then become disillusioned with both Tories & Labour in this country, seeing no future & deemed 'over the hill' by society, he dabbles in drugs, sell his cat to keep up with rising electricity bills...sticks a hose from his exhaust pipe into his garage...where he goes peacefully.

...you can probably see why I don't work in kid's television ;-)

I like that Milton Jones sketch where he's talking about how easy it is to be consumed with envy...and he says "Only the other day I was watching the TV and I saw this man with a far better job then me, a far better car, far better clothes, ....and what's more he also had a black and white cat named Jess.

Postman Pat would probably vote Conservative if he had any sense. Under the Labour government a lot of Royal Mail's business was handed to it's competitors under EU rules which they so blindly follow. Labour also plundered this country's pension funds to the tune of £5bn per year, robbing many people of a comfortable retirement before nearly bankrupting this country by bailing out greedy banks who are at it yet again, making huge profits while cutting interest rates for savers while raising interest rates for mortgage payers.
The Conservative government on the other hand have just taken on Royal Mail's pension deficit so at least Postman Pat's - and my - retirement is saved.

This government also follows EU rules, however Postman Pat knows that this Government has just plundered your pension scheme in return for the tax payers guaranteeing your pension. Unless Postman Pat were to become a banker and get his greed rewarded with a tax cut there is no possibility of him voting for (I'm one of the lads Dave) Cameron.

Who let the Libertarians out without supervision?

Royal mail was okay under Maggie the rest of the post office not so much jobs ofshored to Ireland and justified how oh yeah they can do it cheaper(only if the workers over there didn't do anything.I worked under Maggie and Brown/Blair and the rest of us did do better under them.Apart from the pension debacle that is but getting better jobs on merit was easier than under MT.

Wow - the telemarketers must have had a good laugh with this one.

"You're calling to find out what"?

"We need to know how you think Doctor Who would vote"?

"excuse me"?

"oh, and Postman Pat"

The biggest supporters of the Green Party would surely be "The Wombles"?

"Have you ever wondered how Doctor Who or Postman Pat would vote?"
Given that fictional policy promises and fictional mandates exist only in a fictional democracy, why not.

"polling firm YouGov asked"
YouKidding?

"Unfortunately people were not polled on who they"
would elect, had they a need to run a real democracy.
