London Metropolitan Police have looked into a potential sighting of missing child Madeleine McCann in Spain, according to The Sun.

On Tuesday the newspaper reported that British tourist Karen Sisson, 49, had reported seeing a girl with a German family who looked "'out of it and out of place".

The sighting, at the Cabopino campsite on the Costa del Sol, comes as the girl's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann re-launched their appeal for information on the fifth anniversary of their daughter’s disappearance.

Police issued a computer-generated aged photograph of how Madeleine could look now.

Sisson said that she was ignored on her first attempt at reporting the sighting but The Sun reported that the Met Police's investigation into Madeleine's disappearance, Operation Grange, is looking into Sisson's report.

According to the paper, "police have now been told that the family paid extra for bringing one more child than expected when they arrived at the site on 6 May".

The girl, said Sisson, was wearing a pink T-shirt, shorts and a beige hat. "She seemed alienated and completely different to her family. It really was most peculiar," she told The Sun.

Her suspicions were raised when she noticed the girl wearing the same clothes the next day.

The German family drove a blue Mercedes Vito people carrier with a 'BE' number plate, first produced in 1996.

The Met Police would not confirm that they the reports were true and that Operation Grange was investigating the sighting.
